About The Artist Kate Ferguson
"I'd say our biggest aim in life is to ensure there's something of us left behind, something to say 'I was here and left a little magic'."
About the Artist
Kate is a Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist working primarily with inks, oil paint, mixed media, and acrylics. Her practice bridges contemporary and abstract styles, exploring themes of transformation, emotion, and the quiet magic found in everyday life. Through both fine art and upcycled furniture, Kate creates soulful, one-of-a-kind pieces that blur the lines between function and feeling.
Though a lifelong creative, Kate’s path to a professional art practice was not linear. After being encouraged to pursue a more conventional career, she trained in beauty therapy—but never lost the pull toward artistic expression. In 2019, a period of personal upheaval led her back to the canvas as a form of healing and reconnection. This return marked the beginning of a deeply intuitive and emotionally driven body of work.
Kate’s multidisciplinary approach allows her to move fluidly between mediums and methods, honouring spontaneity and imperfection as integral to her process. Whether through a layered abstract painting or a hand-restored furniture piece, her work invites viewers to pause, feel, and reconnect with beauty in its rawest, most organic form.
Rooted in intuition and personal transformation, Kate’s work is both deeply personal and universally relatable. She is passionate about creating meaningful, one-of-a-kind pieces that breathe new life into spaces and spark joy in everyday living.
